BONODORI
What is Bon-Odori (Bon-Dance)?

During the "Bon" time (end of the summer in Japan), it has been said that the spirits of the ancestor visit their original homes. It has been a custom to make a dance ceremony in order to flee these souls. The most common thought is that, through this ceremony, the dancers express the joy of living. In recent years, the meaning behind the dance has faded a bit. Everybody is now able to participate in the event to dance and have fun. The movements are simple and easy to remember.
